NEC-HE-shrine Express rechargable problem: Express design.

From <xxxxxx@microdsi.net>
Date
I recently took my express apart, down to the component level.
Down to the LCD and the backlight. Down to the design on the board...

I have some interesting findings.

I will make a page when I have time.

(It all started as I discussed PC boards with a friend at NJIT's
Field theory lab...)

Basically, the express can't use rechargables because the power runs
directly from battery the system components.
The express has SERIOUSLY FLAWED PURIFICATION, if any. Like the LT, it
is simple circuitry that can be
easily damaged.

So current spikes from a rechargable can fry the system.

I am currently looking at a design for a heavy duty purity system,
Clip the wires between express and the battery compartment. Insert the
purity unit between the express and the battery compartment.
(The unit would also have a fuse in it to protect the express.)

Then you can use rechargable batteries.

Here comes the fun part...........

The unit could have a dongle on it that could be attached to an
additional
unit.

That unit would step current down from a 9 volt NICAD battery used in RC
cars.
This battery could either be taped or be palaced in a mount on the
express.

This could equate to 30 hours of play on an RC battery attached to an
express.

I need to judge interest in this item..........

I have a friend who is an electronics engineer at NJIT.
Such a simple design is trivial to him. But I have to pay him to design
it........

Then shop around for someone to built it.

What would you be willing to pay for such an item?
$50?
$80?
$100?

Would you want someone to do it for you?
Do it yourself?
