In all this searching (and it's been a lot) I found a Japanese site
that had a few facts about SFZ (also found one with different
screenshots).
He said that he had seen it on the release schedule from the time he
was in 7th grade through 11th or something, and then it never came
out. NEC Avenue's excuse for not releasing it was:
"Development time took much longer than planned, and by the time the
game would've been released, it would've been seen as an 'old' game".
Yeah right. :)
