Ys V was also released directly by Falcom.
Ys 1-5 are also included, and I haven't played them yet. It's
basically just PC-88 and SFC emulation. No big deal. I already own
all of those games except for Ys I and III for PC-88. I do own Ys II
for PC-88 though. Of course, the Ys IV included is the SFC "Mask of
the Sun", and not our beloved "The Dawn of Ys". They say that "Mask
of the Sun" is the "true" Ys IV, but I think the main reason they
included the SFC version is because it's easier to emulate, without
having to worry about the CD soundtrack or anything.
I don't know anything about Culdcept. Never played it, never seen it.
It's kind of old now, so I don't know why you're asking me about it
now. I don't know if you could call it a cross between Ys and Puyo
Puyo. That sounds like wishful thinking to me.
But anyway, Ys VI is great. I would recommend purchasing the windows
version. None of Falcom's games ever get released on consoles
anymore, let alone in English. I wouldn't count on them making an
exception this time just because this one happens to be Ys.
BTW, I am also looking forward to Legend of Heroes VI as well.
There's no release date set for it yet, but I guess it's supposed to
be out next fall.
