Hi everybody.
I don't have the Apple Studio Display, the 15 inch flat panel display that is
also LCD if I remember rightly--but I've had a question in the back of my head
for the longest about this screen so I'm hoping someone on the lists has one
and can shed some light here.
Like most every other computer monitor ever made this thing is designed
obviously to sync with modern computer video speeds, the lower end of which
are in the 25 to 30KHz area, but more often uses much higher syncs for higher
resolutions. The thing that I have been wondering though is that the few
computer monitors ever made that can sync low enough to the 15KHz area that
video games and tv broadcasts use also usually were equipped with RCA for
composite video, S-video sockets, or both. The Commodoer 1084 is just one
example of this although is S-video is non-standard.
The thing I am wondering is, since this Apple Studio Display does have S-video
PCA input, can its RGB sync at 15KHz for an RGB picture from a video game in
addition to an S-video one? The price of the Apple Studio Display has come
way down since it was first introduced and although I'm quite happy with my 25
inch Sony for RGB, at some indeterminate point in the future I just may want
another monitor for my Mac and thought that if this one could do RGB
broadcasts from consoles it might be worth picking up.
