Blazing Lazers is cool but I like Super Star Soldier way better. Also,
Blazing Lazers was made by Compile, who also made Spriggan and the Puyo Puyo
games. If you play Blazing Lazers, I think you'll see it has a VERY similar
feel to Spriggan. Also, Compile unfortunately no longer makes shooters.
These days, all they want to do is churn out all these Puyo Puyo games and
need to give it a rest and get back to their shooter roots. Imagine how cool
a Spriggan or Blazing Lazers style shooter would be on the Dreamcast? Also,
Star Parodia has my vote for BEST vertical PCE shooter of all time.

@Blazing Lasers is a fun game, and although I'm not sure if it qualifies for
this catagory, Galaga '90 is excellent. These are both vertical shooters,
though..
