PCE & Turbo fans beware! Toshiba sucks!

From <xxxxxx@aol.com>

PCE & Turbo fans this is interesting as it affects game play via Magic Engine
on your pc as well. If you have a toshiba drive as described below your
cd/dvd rom will not be able to read the cd rom information on the disc. Man
am I pissed that I bought a DELL WEB PC with a TOSHIBA DRIVE!

Just FYI... Toshiba Sucks! Please forward this information to anyone who
will listen to avoid using toshiba drives. I am fortunately in the
manufacturing business myself and am very surpassed that Toshiba is missing
the customer markets. Toshiba guys if you are listening please forward my
email to your service and sales Managers and Directors. I am sure that they
will be glad to know that you basically tell your customers to eat it instead
of making possible future remedies to customer complaints, very disturbing...

Toshiba CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives will not read Sony Playstations CD's. The
engineers have told us that the Play station cd's are non-standard, and they
are not going to make the drive's read non-standard CD's.

  Yikes.

Here's what I've compiled over the last few months as far as DVD drives that
  will not read game discs:

  Toshiba -- SD-C2202, SD-2302, SD-C2302, and SD-C2402. Which pretty much
means you got the drive "that just plain sucks."

Frankly, I am suprised. Compaq and Gateway have been doing stuff like this
forever, but Dell has always stayed on my good side (until now) by having
good hardware that has no conflicts and has good drivers.

I love those Web PCs 'cuz they look cool and (up until this moment) did
everything I ever needed them to do. <sigh>

Other than maybe hassling Toshiba until you get some kind of answer, I do
not think there is much to do to get this "fixed." :p

We've got some Dell Web PCs in the office, and we actually used them to
display bleem! at a conference. Grrr, maybe they've started putting the
"BAD" drives in those computers, which would not be good news for you.

Most of the Toshiba DVD drives in laptops will not read Playstation
(black-backed) discs. Unfortunately, this is a limitation of the drive
itself, and there is nothing that we can do about it. You can check with
Toshiba (www.toshiba.com), and see if they have updated firmware that may
   fix this problem.

To check this, put a game disc in your DVD drive, and close the drive door.
Now, go into Windows Explorer and try to look at the files on the disc. If
you can not see any files, it is because your drive is unable to recognize
the disc. In fact, you will probably get a pop-up message that says that
   drive is "not ready".
