Re: Strider and Sapphire: and why I'm a happy man:

Strider is indeed a very fun game, but to put down Dracula X, which makes
much better use of the hardware, and dole out praise to Strider in the same
email... That's hard to take seriously. Strider is fun merely because the
original arcade game was so well designed. The cinemas make good use of the
arcade card (and sweet CD tuneage), but otherwise it is inferior to the Sega
Genesis version in every way. To me, saying you were bored with the Genny
version indicates a PCE bias. Contrarily, Dracula X on Duo smokes the SNES
port (despite its mostly superior hardware) and is an original installment
in its series to boot.

Speaking of which, Nick Rox's Game Fan review of Strider had some noticeable
errors... He claimed TWO extra levels were added (instead of one) and also
claimed the cinemas were full-screen, 30 FPS miracles. They ARE cool
cinemas, but not always full screen, and I'm not sure about the 30 FPS
either. Anyway, I caught up with him in Game Fan chat a year or 2 ago
(making sure it was him) and he apologized for those mistakes I thought that
was so cool... He WAS a fantastic reviewer, especially for his age (17 when
the mag started).
