Why didn't TZD..& more

This is a confusing subject. TZD certainly could do this if they
wanted to. Consider the following things and please respond to this if
you have any info.

When TTI dissolved on December 31st, 1993, HUDSON and NEC were bound
by federal law to support the DUO for 7 years. Much the same way
Panasonic still services the 3DO and Philips/ Magnavox still support the
CD-i. This means that parts, technical support, and a warm body to answer
calls must be available for 7 years after a product is discontinued. When
the Jaguar failed Atari assigned some new and old employees to run GoAtari
in order to fullill their obligation to a growing fanbase and to the
government although they never had any intention of getting into home
consoles ever again. GoAtari still receives support from Atari's new
owner HASBRO even though they want nothing to do with the Jaguar. So you
see, the obligation is serious (bear with me here...). TTI was no
exception to this law. HUDSON however, wanted out bigtime. NEC and
HUDSON sent some TTI remnants (game help, system support, former
employees) to California and formed a small outfit called TZD. TZD bought
another major Turbo supporter who was importing MAcross and more. And
HUDSON payed to NEC their way out of their obligation and silently
withdrew to Japan. However, they left something of a severance package if
you will. Even when most of HUDSON's development contracts were up with
US developers, they let TZD get the exclusive BONK III SCD. Then, HUDSON
made another allowance for TZD by letting them print and extra 100 or 500
copies of DUNGEON EXPLORER II. TZD had another favor done them by NEC who
still
has them under contract to support the Turbo. NEC hooked TZD up with
distributors in Japan which was why they were able to import such awesome
games. I think NEC has also extended TZD's contract for another few
years. One of the stipulations in that contract is that TZD is not to sell
anysystems! TZD must have a load of systems because they are able to replace
defective so easily and, who better to have that excess TTI stock than TZD
which still has some former TTI people? Perhaps TZD hasn't done more with
games because NEC of Japan (NOT America-hmmm....) might be breathing dwon
their necks with an axe.
It is my general impression that TZD could call in some favors from
HUDSON. I'm sure that stuff could still be imported but I don't think
they want to give the Turbo community any false hopes. I am virtually
certain that if TZD were to ask, they would get because NEC and HUDSON
would be forced to see what a great job TZD has done!!
While we are on the subject, there were rumors then that NEC was
furious with HUDSON. As I understand it, HUDSON handled most of the
software for TTI. They selected, translated, and distributed most of the
software (Dragonslayer, Dungeon Explorer, Bonk, and more). In fact,
besides Working Designs and HUDSON/ TTI, who else transalted games for the
US Turbo?! I don't recall IREM, FALCOM, RED and TELNET having US offices
or branches. Anyway, I remember hearing that NEC was mad because HUDSON
was bailing on them. They felt that HUDSON would rather be NINTENDO's lap
dog and that's why they ported BONK and BOMBERMAN over to the SNES. I
believe that the story continued that HUDSON was reluctant to bring out
other games they promised to US gamers. Record of Lodoss War I or II,
Spriggan, Rayamber II and/or III were abandoned at the last moment.
Actually, DYNASTIC HERO also almost never made it, and if I'm not
mistaken, it was released after the demise of TTI. Perhaps another part
of the severance to NEC. HUDSON replied, supposedly, by saying that NEC
would not properly fund the TTI DUO Project. I'm sure it was all of this
bickering that caused WORKING DESIGNS to bail on the project. Keep in
mind folks, Cosmic Fantasy 3 was nearly complete according to responses I
still have from them. They also had entirely programmed/ translated WORLD
HEROES for the US Arcade Card which they were told was going to be
released in the US!! Think about it, how would they have wound up with
the development software for the Arcade Card and WORLD HEROES?! Not to
mention the loss of Street Fighter 2, Macross 2036 and SLG, Dracula X,
Bomberman 94, Ys IV, and Fatal Fury 2 which would have sold the DUO for
sure.
Are the HUDSON/ NEC fight rumors true? Maybe. This was also around
the time NEC confirmed the PC-FX and that HUDSON announced their own
system and then cancelled it. HUDSON, though they really bailed on the FX
by shipping Bomberman to the Saturn and cancelled TengaiMakyou III, Lords
of Thunder FX and more, really did a lot of good for NEC. I think NEC
benefitted more from HUDSON than did Nintendo and Sega combined. I also
think it's sad that HUDSON who at one time was the number 3rd party
developer in the world seems to have disappeared but for a few games.
Anyone know what they have done? I should say that much of what I said
above was told to me over the last few years. Some of this stuff is true
and I have many fist hand sources. In fact, in the early days of TZD, I
remember people there would were game helpers ( long since gone) and
techs from TTI who would blame NEC or HUDSON with varied arguments. Here
I have several questions and suggestions...

   1. TZD does support new ideas for the Turbo. They were very
supportive of my Turbo Tribute CD and of some new games on the hackers
list...Anyone know if BLOCKS is coming? I think TZD has the pull to help
with new games and import others, what are the chances they will actually
talk to NEC about it?
   2. I think they should carry FX stuff also. NEC must have tooo much
stock sitting in Japan.
   3. I brought this up almost a year ago and I have recently reconfirmed
it... Working Designs said that they could be influenced to reprint
EXILE:WP, VASTEEL and more. They are not sure of the demand. They have
many manuals left over. Remember, they reprinted 3,000 copies of LUNAR:
ETERNAL BLUE for the SEGA CD a few years ago and sold them for $70.00.
They did it without permission too. How does the list feel about getting
them a petition for these and for Cosmic Fantasy 3, the master, translated
copy of which is sitting in Ireland's office? It has to be worth the shot
although WD told me that if something like that were released it would
have to be expensive.
   4. Anyone know how so many US games were translated? How many
developers kits were issued in the US. Electronic Arts, IREM, ICOM, JVC,
what info is there on these TTI licencees. Where are the kits?
   5. What happenned to those Japanese companies like FALCOM, RED, and
TELNET?
   6. Were there any US only Hu-cards?
I know I have too much to say and ask but hey, this is the TML,
right?
   7. I am having trouble in the Turbo Tribute CD with the dungeon track
in Ys I & II...the piece with the synth flute running in 16th notes...can
anyone help me figure this out?!!! Is there a midi site anywhere?

     PLease help,
        Regards,
            George
