I don't think you should worry too much about the collector's value of
Turbo stuff. Good games( RARE games actually) very rarely are forgotten
or ignored. I still have Colecovision rarities which I see going for $40
and up which is what they went for in 83 when I got them. Final Fantasy
III and Chrono Trigger for the SNES- Lunar Eternal Blue and Shining Force
for the Genesis- Lucienne's Quest for the 3DO- Beyond Shadowgate for the
Turbo- Mystaria for the Saturn- Atari Karts for the Jaguar- and the MANY
games like these still get a high sale price.
In fact, take a look around
you. Check ebay, TZD, Retrogames, Gamestogo, VGD. They all still sell
good amounts of Turbo stuff. How much of their stuff is on blow out
clearance? My GOD- check out TELEGAMES! For a limited time last year
they had raised the price of DUO and Expresses to $399.99 for the standard
$200.00-250.00 and they still sold them! They were so underproduced
and so good that they will never be forgotten. More importantly though,
these are excellent games. If you own DUO games just so you can sell them
later, then you have it for the wrong reason. Of course, having it in the
closet doesn't too good either. Take the old girl for a spin every once
in a while. Play some of those great games which I'm sure many of us
still find appealing. I think of my RPGs as books. When I finish an RPG I
feel as though I have finished a story. In fact, Ys I&II, Dragonslayer,
Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force III series, and a few others I have
completed sit on my bookshelf next to the books I've read.
When I get a chance to play my DUO, I often think about what I went
through to get it and the games. What it felt like to first play them.
How fun it is now. How it wowed my friends. There are lots of memories
with it.
I can't ever believe that Ys IV or Dracula X would ever lose their
appeal. If they have and you really have moved on, there are many people
who would gladly take your collection off your hands.
But, if you worry about collector's value, you have nothing to fear.
Of the systems released in the US, the DUO (and even the Neo Geo) and the
most sought after. Again, check ebay...one page of DUO or Neo auctions is
usually equivalent to two or three for any other system.
take care,
george
