I'd love to hear your views on exactly why the above is so prevalent among 
Japanese businesses. Knowing what I do of Japanese culture I would think 
that these businesses would realize that their stubbornness and 
unwillingness to do anything new or slightly radical is highly 
counterproductive and hurts their ability to not only survive but also 
thrive. I'd think they'd take a hard look at their bottom lines and come to 
the realization that what they're doing isn't working.
