Hey--wasn't there a version of Zero Wing for the PAL market? Would that
have had ENGRISH in it? I have seen Zero Wing MegaDrive ROMs which
display Engrish for the subtitles, and they weren't altered either. I
just think that this is another situation where the country-switches in
the hardware keep certain versions' languages locked. If you have Mystic
Defender for the Genesis, and you know how to manipulated the switches
or if you put it in a Mega Drive, you get that Peacock King game name
(or whatever it was called) with Japanese/Anime character opening
instead of the English. You would probably have to use the PAL version
to see the Zero Wing's original Engrish, at any rate the Shockwave Flash
movie creator didn't make it up.
My vote for the funniest actual case of Engrish goes to: Cobra 2 for the
PC Engine. (And no, it's not bad Engrish--if it were bad it wouldn't be
as rip-roaring hilarious as it is.)
