While we're on this thread, what's everyone's opinions on the American
companies anyway? It seems to me that Sega of America just rides on
Sega of Japan's back like they're the brains behind the whole thing --
face it, they were no more than a 3rd party vendor w/ the same name
that buoght the rights to the hardware & software, then put out a few
sports games of their own. Now, that's not to say that I want American
companies to put out another bullshit game as they're known to do, but
until recently, none of the American console companies could've done
ANYTHING w/o their Japanese counterparts, and Microsoft seems to be the
only one that can, although the lineup looks really lame w/o the Sega
games (hello history repeating itself).
As for NEC Japan not helping out (whether they were evil or not is
irrelevant) but should they have? Even today I think you need someone
familiary with American pop culture to market a product, but 10 years
ago you needed it even more... and vice versa for that matter. I think
that's reason enough for NEC America to just hire a few bilinguals that
were local to AMerica, get off their buts, acquire them rights, and
trasnlate the game... no matter how loose it was.
Just my opinion.
