Re: Supergrafx

I wouldn't expect it to be cheap. In fact, not to discourage you, but
there may be sometime between the moment you decide to buy one and the
moment you actually find one. It took me a while not just to find one,
but to find it in Mint condition with box and all AND to find it at a
decent price; saying nothing about finding software.
Here is roughly what you should expect:

     A. For a Super Grafx system out of box but in good, working
condition, you should expect to pay between $150-$200.

     B. For one with all original box & docs, it could go from $200-$350.

  For the games:
This will again depend on condition and more importantly on whether
the outer box is included. The boxes look like CD-i boxes. They slide on
and securely hold the jewel cases.
BATTLE ACE- This is probably the cheapest one to get. It is by no
means a bad game, in fact, it is a pretty awesome shooter. For the time
(I think 1989) it is better than anything in terms of speed. This will
forever rank as the single most difficult shooter ever made. I didn't
beat this one until I found the debug code with the 255 lives option. And
even then, I barely beat it.
     with outer box/ MINT/ complete--------$25-$35
with something missing or not MINT----$15-$25

SUPER DARIUS- Another relatively common game. This one is
bi-compatible with PC Engine and SuperGrafx though the SGx mode has much
less flicker. This is probably the most common one because it could also
be played on a PCE.
     with outer box/ MINT/ complete--------$25-$35
with something missing or not MINT----$15-$25

SUPER GHOULS & GHOSTS- Awesome game. And from this one down, no game
is cheap or easy to find.
     with outer box/ MINT/ complete--------$55-$75
with something missing or not MINT----$35-$55

ALDYNES- If you find this game, it's because an idiot like me had it
and sold it before I got a SGX. All indications are that this is one of
the greatest shooters (similar to Gate of Thunder) of all time. I would
love to see a CD version of this only to beef up the music. This game is
hard to give you an estimate for because I have seen it going at $30 and
at $100, but in general:
     with outer box/ MINT/ complete--------$60-$80
with something missing or not MINT----$40-$55

GRANZORT- Another very cool game. I think someone said this may be
the sequel to Keith Courage in Alpha Zones. Though, it's obviously much
better. Intriguing title.
     with outer box/ MINT/ complete--------$60-$80
with something missing or not MINT----$40-$55

1941- This is definately the rarest one. I believe it was the last
game to be released for the SGX. I think there were only about 1,500
copies made which is about what Dead of the Brain 1&2 got. I've seen it a
few times here and in Japan (more than some other SGX titles) but it is
pricey and rare and good.

     with outer box/ MINT/ complete--------$120+
with something missing or not MINT----$85+

These prices will of course vary. If you find them at these prices,
I'd say you've hit the norm and should probably get them. If you go to
Japan, you might find Battle Ace and Darius for slightly less. But, it
really all depends on the seller. A good way to get them is in bundles if
you can. usually, a SGX will apear for sale with some games included, but
that is from Hong Kong, Japan, or Taiwan and the shipping can be
murderous. Just go with the Surface Mail which is about $20-25. It'll
take a month or two, but hey, you've waited this long...
The other cool thing about the SGX, you can play all of your PCE
games without any difficulty.
If you need further reviews of games or where to buy, let me
know. For now, check the following sites I found for you.

The Bay has two for sale right now:
-check Super Grafx and SuperGrafx (two and one words)
-both are international, check shipping prices

BuyRite1.com has a package with a SGx console with 5 games:
       -all but 1941
-package is going for like $500

     Finally, here are some pointers:
-when searching, as I mentioned above, try "Super Grafx" and
SuperGrafx"
-be weary of bundles with games. Sometimes only PC Engine games
are included, no SGx titles. This doesn't mean it's a bad deal (not by
ANY MEANS). Just watch what you are getting.
Well, if you need more help, just shout,
        george
