Crystal Beans is a game for the Super Famicom, and is basically a conversion
of Dungeon Explorer II. It is not exactly the same, however, sort of like
a "Dungeon Explorer Gaiden". The graphics are improved over DEII, and the
music is a very good conversion of the DEII CD audio, much better than
other SNES conversions from CD like Ys III.
The game is smaller than DEII. You start out at a castle & town, and after
leaving the town, you choose your destination on a map, going directly to
the dungeons. There is no lengthy travelling between towns and dungeons
(as far as I can tell), as there is in DEII. The graphics are cartoony,
more of a SFC style than the PCE style of DEII. There are no lengthy
cinemas, at least as far as I have gotten.
If you can get it for cheap, I'd definitely recommend it!!
p.s. While I have your attention, on a more PCE-related note. If you're
having a tough time playing Ankoku Densetsu (AKA Legendary Axe II), and you
have a ROM of it, change byte $35AC in the ROM with a hex editor from $05
to $FF. This should make working through the game MUCH more tolerable.
:-)
p.p.s Don't worry about not passing each level; your life meter is very
long, but not infinite!
