Re: PC-FX questions

I remember in the good old days of Gamefan there was an accesory called
the PC-FX Emulator 9800 which, if I remember correctly, was a multi disc
set which allowed you to do what the others did. I wonder...
Also, you'd think with the FX's supreme video capabilities a video card
would have been made for it, unless it can already play VCDs and I don't
know it. It was also the trend back then wasn't it? The CD32, Saturn,
3DO, Pippin and CD-i all have one.

Power League FX is that bad? I like the Power League games I have
played on PC Engine anyway and I just figured that PLFX might be an
improved extension of the series. Personally, the only PC-FX that I
really can't get into (though it does have comedic value, to be sure) is
QUEEN OF QUEENS. Just seeing those wrestlers pretend to get kicked
("oof!") is funny as hell. It's probably what they do in the ring
anyway. What a bizarre game.
In response to Dave telling me to get them all, LOL, I guess I was
going to do that anyway. I have to say taht PC-FX owners are pretty lucky
because PC-FX software is more available now than ever before. I have had
little trouble finding it though prices for new games is still too
high. The cheaper prices are found in stores like Gamechoice (great Hong
Kong Store-Great website-highly recommended) for new games. The bay has
some good Japanese sellers on there as well but shipping and bank fees can
get high.
This last trip to Japan was a real relief for me. I was happy to find
any PC-FX I had ever heard of and then some. I'd say that 1 in every 3
shops that carried older software had a decent PC-FX selection. I
remember someone at a store in Osaka (thanks to Takumi Suidu for taking
the time to take me there!) telling me that they still sell PC-FX games
often and that it was loved among the hard hard HARD core gamers.
It is a great thing to have a PC-FX specialize in what it does
best. It's a shame that Bomberman went to the Saturn and that Lords of
Thunder FX and others never made it out, but the PC-FX did what it
specialized in well. It's like having a Neo Geo. Sure there are various
kinds of games for it but anybody who is anybody knows what the reasons
are for having one. These systems make no pretense about being anything
else than what they are and I think that is why I love the FX so much. I
doubt this ws planned by NEC. It's like the 3DO is known for its scifi
games and FMV games, that's its niche. SNK had other titles for the Neo
Geo but the fighters became its niche. Just my ramble for the day...
