How is it that NEC USA was so aesthetically inept? Wasn't the turbo
grafx really the same hardware as the core grafx? Yet it was relatively
ugly. Then there's that big bulky attachment for the CD-ROM. I believe
the drive itself is the same but the interface module definitely wasn't.
It wasn't until much later that US stuff finally started to look the
same or at least similar to the Japanese stuff. Game covers were really
bad this way, too. Compare the US and Japan releases Dungeon Explorer,
or Nectaris and Military Madness. The US covers look terrible! Many of
these games could have fairly easily used the same cover art, but NEC
apparently chose not to. Why, I wonder?
(there were a few exceptions... Ys Book I & II's US cover was nice, even
though it wasn't the same as the Japanese cover.. Ys III on the other
hand.. the US cover is crap, IMO)
On an unrelated subject, my order arrived from TZD today. I bought a
few joysticks and game pads as I'm planning on hooking up both my TG-16
and my duo for playing Bomberman '94 and Dungeon Explorer during an
arcade party. Thanks to everyone who responded positively :-)
