In actuality, Sony would not have been a player if their CD add-on for the
SNES was not unceremoniously scrapped by Nintendo. After their plans for a
stand alone S.Famicom based CD game system (no cart slot, CD only,
tentatively called in the development stages--the Playstation!!) which I
think would have failed IMHO, could not come to fruition, they were given the
fuel to go ahead with their own system. And the rest, they say, is history.
So we have Nintendo to thank for the PSX taking over the world.
