No, I don't think so. This modification has no relationship to ADPCM hardware.
Most US HuCards check the value of a port (which is different on US or
Japanese machines), before they will allow the game to run at all. I can't
believe that the game would selectively enable or disable features based on
this value, rather than simply display a "not playable" message.
