No, this was a special situation. We were still publishing Game Zero magazine
as a print publication and damn, I can't remember which tradeshow it was at,
but this was shortly after it was clear that TTi wasn't going to bring
over Dracula X. We approached Konami at the show with the idea of a third party buying the
rights to release the game in the U.S. (this was around
mid-93'/Jan-94'). They were interested in our idea because they were aware that there was an
interest in the title, but they didn't feel there were enough numbers to persue it themselves.
So we had a meeting with a V.P. from marketing, and two other corporate staff
(not PR goons), and pitched them the idea that some of the staff from our magazine were
looking to spin off into software publishing. We wanted to see if we could license
Dracula X from them for a US TG release. As I said before, we worked through Konami's
requirements (which were apparently locked in stone by Konami Japan),
and realized there there would be no way for us to generate enough capital up front
to satisfy their requirements, and that we would probably NEVER be able to sell the volume
that Japan was dictating (these numbers applied to all platforms) had
to be commited to.
