Try cleaning your Express. Your problem still could lie in the converter,
though. Try shaking your Duo slightly when using the converter. Since the
Duo is stationary at all times, you just may not notice that the
connection is a little flaky.

As for modding TG's... I've done it, and in fact I've still got a few
switches left (Not for sale, sorry). I bought them from digikey.com, but
it looks like they no longer carry 8PDT switches.

I mounted the switch on the right side of the case, in the same postion
that the RF plug is on the left side. I also mounted an additional
connector with RGBS, Video, and stereo audio outputs about an inch farther
forward on the right side. Then I built a video amp (to clean up the RGB
signal) and mounted it underneath the cart port. I added extra shielding
and routed all wires well away from video processor hardware. I still get
a clean picture even through the RF port! (I haven't finished the amp yet,
though.)
I'd consider selling if the price were right.
