Hi, folks. Me again... After a short (about 20
days!)
interruption in access to the internet, I have finally
been able to get back on the net.
I'm living in a small city in northern Japan called
Kitakami, where I'm teaching English for about a year.
I've been here since February 6th. It's a pretty
nice place with friendly people, but it can get very
cold at night in my apartment.
To preserve my sanity in a small town, I brought along
my Turbo Express and a few Turbo and PC-Engine games
to play. I figured that I wouldn't have much luck
finding any classic games around here.
But NO! I was walking along random streets one day a
couple of weeks ago, and I came across a used game
shop. They stocked plenty of Famicom, Gameboy,
PC-Engine, SFC, and PSX games. So... I was happy.
Last weekend, I bought a Famicom game and a bunch of
PC-Engine stuff... here's what I got... (uhhh...
this is not a "for sale" list or anything...)
Barunba, Ninja Ryuukenden, Heavy Unit, Vigilante,
Rastan Saga II, Red Alert, and the Super CD-ROM
sampler (Tengai Makyo Manji Maru + Dragon Slayer) for
about $1.50-$3.00 apiece;
Dynastic Hero and L-Dis for about $4.00 each;
An Arcade Card Duo for about $3.50;
Parodius Da! for about $10.00;
And a CoreGrafx for $9.00 plus SuperCD-ROM unit for
$2.50.
The store owner was very generous. He gave me Human
J-Leage Soccer and Ganbare Golf Boys as gifts...
I went home happy. :-)
I modded my Core system to play US Turbo games
recently, thanks to Joe/Joan's PCE modding docs. It's
been a great experience so far. The store has a lot
of PCE games, but is missing most of the "really
great" ones. It's OK because they more than make up
for that with their cheap games. The PCE stuff is the
cheapest of all the systems in their store.
Recently I also bought some more games (Terraforming
impressed me... and I am in love with the music!) and
the owner of the store gave me a bare Supergrafx
system for free! I tested it out and the next day I
bought Battle Ace and GranZort, since that's all they
had.
I hope to do some game-hunting in other towns in
Northern mainland Japan, but I guess I would have to
search each town or ask the locals. Does anybody know
of a listing of stores or store chains in Japan?
Bye for now,
=====
