Seriously, there are some huge questions I have about Tengai Makyou in
general. Who was Professor Chada? Why does he get a page in perfect English
in the Tengai Makyou RPG game manuals about the incredible project that it is?
It is clear that it is there for forgeiners to read yet, no one has ever even
heard of the anime in the US, let alone the game. There is even a sentence
(if I reemmber ) about how companies like Disney need take notice. I mean,
I'm all for it. The Tengai Makyou games probably make up (arguably) some of
the best RPGs of the 16bit. Music is extraordinary!!!
Getting back to the Disney thing for a moment...in Far East of Eden III
Kabuki, there is an amusement park which is a direct cut on Disney. You have
to fight characters who look exactly like a deranged Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse
and two others (I've been past that part forever and can't recall the other
two (Pinoccio, maybe).
So, the series seems to want to make a media statement of some sorts. I
don't know how well it was received in Japan (anyone know?) but (to tie this
into what Dave Shadoff is doing with translating games), I'll use this as part
of my argument that we should strive to translate Tengai Makyou II & III one
day as the List is really missing out on two masterpieces.
So, if anyone (especially in Japan) can give any insight in the making of
Tengai Makyou, the mythos surrounding it, its popularity, its impact,
whatever, please share it. Always been very curious about it,
sorry for the rambling,
george
