Re: WTB: Ys I&II Complete

Long time no post.. A lot of people are asking about this lately, so he's my
"FAQ on ordering from Falcom" again.

Note that many games do not work properly in US Windows. However, if you
have Windows XP with JPN fonts installed, you'll have a much higher success
rate.

In particular, about Ys 1,2 Complete:

They no longer sell the combined "Ys 1,2 complete", they've broken them into
"Ys 1 Compelte" and Ys 2 Complete" (and say that they're 'now XP
compatible', even though I have no problems running the original releases on
my XP).

First off, there are little glitches if trying to run either game in US
Windows 95 or 98. Ys 1's font will be all garbled (the text is screwed up).
Y's 2 is tough to install (you have to do part of it manually as the
installer will crash on a JPN filename), and once you do, you can't load
saved games, only 'continue from last save game' when you die (meaning, you
only get one save game, and you have to start a game and die in order to
load up a saved game). If you have Windows XP and have all the JPN settings
turned on (fonts, etc), it runs better.

If in doubt, order the CD-Rom version, even if you have a DVD-Rom drive. The
CD-Rom version lets you listen to the music in a CD player, while the DVD
one does not.

Here is how to order from Falcom directly:

I have written this FAQ to allow people to purchase items directly from
Falcom in Japan. I have done so quite often, and have always received my
items within 2 weeks. *PLEASE* read the FAQ thoroughly before ordering.

Falcom has very basic English skills. Do not ask them about other forms
of payment (it's credit cards only), if they have any PC Engine or Saturn games
(they're permanently sold out of everything not listed on their catalog,
including all console games), or anything like that. Their web site *is*
accurate, they stress that anything not on the web site is sold out).

They have 2 sites (one is mirrored; you can go to either, they are
identical):
www.falcom.com
or
www.falcom.co.jp

Important: **please** do not make tough to fulfill request or try to get
exceptions (don't ask them to take a check, or what's in the limited edition
of Mona Mona, etc.). This is important so that they continue to sell to
people in America. If we (the turbolisters) become a hassle, they may decide
its not worth it.. I know I'll regret saying this later, but please ask me
any questions you have, not them. I am not affiliated with them in any way,
but I've purchased a lot from them, and also know about their products as a
fan.

To order, copy the form I have entered below and send it to:
xxxxxx@falcom.com
**not** to me (I do *not* want to know your credit card number (^^)).

Entering in the items you want and price:
Include the item number (its on the line above the price in yen), such as:
Item #815 Ys 1 Complete DVD Rom 3800yen
Item #816 Ys 1 Complete CD Rom 3800yen
Item #813 Ys 2 Complete DVD Rom 4800yen
Item #814 Ys 2 Complete CD Rom 4800yen

Ordering multiples:
If you want more than one of an item, just add another bit saying so. For
example:
"Quantity: 4, Total 2,718yen x 4 = 10,872yen."

Figuring shipping:
They figure in the shipping, which is probably around 10-15 dollars for just
one music CD, with another few dollars for each extra CD, or 25-40 dollars
for a copy of Ys Eternal or most computer games.

"How much is that in dollars?"
To figure the price in dollars, take the yen price an divide by 124. (just
an approximation. Accurate as on January 17th 2000.

I did not list any computer games because most Japanese games will not run
on American windows. Ys Eternal will run, but you will not be able to read
the text, it will show up as white blocks. The rest of the game plays fine
(but I do *not* take any responsibility for it working on your computer. I
am not making a penny off this, and have no connections to Falcom). At any
rate, if you have Japanese windows, you should have enough JPN language
skills to be able to copy down the catalog number, name, and price from
their catalog yourself.

Just copy the lines containing the items you want to the place after "I
would like to order these items" and fill in the blanks.

After you send the order form, they will reply with an email containing this
message (unless they've updated their form reply since my last order):
Thank you for an inquiry of Falcom mail order service.
The total price is as follows.
If you are ok, we think we would like to accept your order.
We will be looking forward to contacting from you again.
If you agree with me, plase reply me soon.

Assuming you agree with everything in the email (and remember, their English
is not their best skill), email a reply saying "I agree with that. I am
looking forward to receiving my order."

If you have any input or corrections, please let me know.

The order form follows this. Send it, as I said, to:
