I agree with David Woodford here - but I'd like to expand a bit on the point.
The regular single CD cases and even thick CD cases come in a factory
folded-and-bonded cellulose type crackly plastic, which usually (if not
always) has a pull-tab for easy opening. At the edges, this looked
"wrapped" in the same way that a Christmas present would be wrapped -
folded at the edges, rather than "shrinkwrapped" per se.
I don't recall seeing any factory folded-and-sealed cellulose style plastic
wrap on these; I can only recall the softer heat-shrink plastic, where the
edges are melted together rather than folded. The main reason I can think
of for this, is that the double-cases had many inserts, and often these
inserts were odd sizes, and needed to be placed in the box by hand, rather
than by machine. Or perhaps the fold-wrap machine couldn't deal with the
thickness of those double cases.
