Re: Turbo Mod part 2 (continued)

Notes:
(1) For reference, pin 1 is the short pin (on the left, if the card
is to inserted forwards), pin 38 is the long pin on the right.

The TG-16 differs from the PC-E in that the D0-7 datalines are
reversed (actually, the PROM is programmed that way, and the wires
leading to the data bus in the machine are reversed). I have
shown here, the card pinout (which does not differ). I believe
that this is the PC-E port pinout (TG-16's just reverse the data
lines' order; swap 15 (D0) for 23 (D7), 16 (D1) for 22 (D6), 17 (D2) for
21 (D5), and 19 (D3) for 20 (D4).>>>>>>>>

Ok, now compare that with information from the switch install from the
turbo-list website:

http://joyce.eng.yale.edu/~bt/turbo/files/country.switch

It says to swap 16 for 24, 17 for 23, 18 for 22, and 19 for 20. Ok, what
is wrong with this picture??? Um, in your post David you confirmed that
18 is ground and not re-routed. In the switch install post, it says 21
is the ground and is not re-routed. What happened is that they have the
numbers reversed. Pin 18 is counted from left to right. However, they
counted from right to left, which would make pin 18 pin 21 when counted
that way. The rest is true for their other pins. This post proves that
the other post that was "updated" by the other guys is in incorrect when
it comes to Duo's and TG-16's. I believe that post was done for a Turbo
Express, which is why it has different information. What pissed me off
is that I was looking at their diagram, but then looking at the Duo
board which had different pin layouts, my instincts said something was
wrong and to keep trying to find the correct information.

Once again, I do not think they are wrong, just that that was install
instructions for a Turbo Express, which I believe the sockets were
flipped upside down compared to the regular units. So while the
following instructions work great for a Turbo Express, I believe that
this seriously needs to be updated for the rest of us TG-16 and Duo
owners. I talked to a guy that wasted several hours because of the whole
pin mapping confusion. You would think after all these years we could
have a nice post, with pictures what not. David, you mentioned that some
other people have had photos, but are there any websites still hosting
those? If not, lets get another up (I will be more than happy to have a
site that will have that info if we can't update turbo-list)

I apologize for the long post, I just want to get the correct
information out there, and I was a little frustrated with "conflicting"
information. In the end, David Shadoff had the pin layout 100% correct,
and I just want to get this whole issue cleared up. I am going to
install my switch, and then share with all of you pictures on the
install, and some tips since that just doesn't seem to be available
anymore.

PS: David any tips on doing the mod before I do the final stages of my
mod?
