The Duo won't read CD-R media and I've been in the same boat as you. There
is something that you can do with your scratched CDs that might work, it has
for me in the past. Now this might sound crazy but hear me out. Get a tube
of toothpaste. It must be the gel kind, not the paste. I'm not sure if
whitening types have any effect but I use something like plain old Colgate
gel. Then take a little gel and put it on the disc. Then rub it in circles
where the scratches are. Wash the disc off with cool water and let it air
dry. This has solved many scratched CD problems on every system I own
including Duo, PSX, Dreamcast, etc. I don't know what it is that makes it
work but somehow the gel fills in the little scratches or something making
the laser reflect properly. I've never used a repair kit so I can't give
any information about that...
