Hello. I'm new to this list, so forgive me if I'm asking old questions,
but I've checked various TG FAQs and can't find the information I'm
looking for.
First of all, why am I here? I've just bought a PAL Turbo Grafx unit and
several games. Yes they definitely do exist - it seems that a whole
warehouse full of them has recently been released onto various channels
and can now found on eBay, lik-sang.com and various other places. As far
as I can tell, these are different machines from the NTSC units offered by
tzd.com without the Keith Courage pack-in game.
They come with Blazing Lazers as a pack-in game and a seperate accessories
box including a 240V mains adaptor, RF paraphernalia and an A/V lead. The
RF box uses the same 5 pin DIN socket as the A/V lead and it's an unusual
240 degree type (like a 6 pin DIN socket without the central pin). The
video standard they output is PAL, in all its usual 50Hz letterboxed
"glory". There is no internal RF modulator in the console, so I guess a
Turbo Booster is not useful with this version of the machine.
Now that I've at last got one of these wonderful machines, I'd like to do
some mods on it. I've seen the info on conversion for Japanese HuCards and
(expensive) HuCard convertors. What I think I'll do is get a 2nd machine
and open it up, permanently swapping around its data pins so that it
accepts Japanese HuCards (only).
As these are already configured as US machines in terms of country
setting, I'm expecting them to run Japanese HuCards without difficulty.
What would be nice, however, would be running them at the proper speed.
(60Hz)
Does anyone know where the 50/60Hz pin is on a Turbo Grafx's chipset? I'm
expecting it to be on the Hu6270 VDC, though it could potentially be
anywhere. Note: this is not the same thing as the Jap/US country setting
already documented in the various FAQs.
Hope someone can help,
Richard
