PCECP.com & MindRec.com (and about a dozen other sites that I run) were
hosted by Eryxma Networks (out of Houston, Texas). On the afternoon of
16 April, Glexicon sent out an email to Eryxma's clients saying that they
had acquied the customer assets of Eryxma, and that all clients would be
transferred to Glexicon servers in short time. No timeframe was given,
nor was any indication given that customers should backup their data,
that is to say that our data was in danger of being lost forever.
On Monday (19 April), Eryxma was cut off from the rest of the net. This
was done because they had failed to pay their upstream provider. Eryxma
failed to inform any of its clients that this was the reason we were
being transferred to Glexicon.
Glexicon had used the weekend to make backups of all Eryxma Customer
data, and was in the process of getting it setup on new machines.
However, Glexicon did not license the same hosting system that Eryxma
had used for some of their clients, and a week later announced that
it would not be able to host those customers, but that it would
provide the backups that it had made.
After this announcement, I made new arrangements for hosting,
expecting that the backed up data would follow soon after.
To this date, Glexicon has failed to produce a single backup
for any of the sites that they are unable to host. I am,
understandably, disappointed that Glexicon has so far not
been able to provide this, but I also realize that this is
partially my fault for not having current backups of all the
sites.
At some point, Glexicon will either need to provide the data,
admit that they cannot provide it, or we will need to stop trying.
If they can provide the data (site files and database dump,
as they claim they have), then it will be trivial to get things
back up and running in a short amount of time. If one of the
other cases comes to be, then some decisions will need to be made.
I do have an older backup copy of PCECP that will serve as the
starting point, if need be.
