Yes, the Ys anime was actually brought over to American shores by Media
Blasters.
There are 3 DVDs (2 for the 7 episodes of Ys 1, 1 for the 4 episodes of "Ys
II: Castle in the Heavens").
Or it comes as a full set, labelled "Ys Legacy".

Yes, Falcom has done some amazing work in recent years on PC games,
including extensions to the "Eiyuu Densetsu"
Series (the first two parts were called "Dragon Slayer: the Legend of
Heroes"), and more recently the extension
to the Ys series.

any good? how about Ys V?

Er, I think you are referring to the version of Ys IV (since Ys VI was not
on either PCE or SFC).
It was the Super Famicom version, and all of these appeared to be emulated I
think the Ys 1 and 2 were
PC-880 versions if I recall correctly. Nice emulation, but if you're used
to playing Ys on the PC Engine,
these will disappoint you because the sound and animation simply aren't
there.
Oh, and these are the Japanese versions only.
