Hmm... The second half of my original message didn't go through...

Actually, the release date is June of this year for the Japanese PC.

Well, that's the tricky part.
I think the Ys VI port to the PS2 was poorly done, losing quite a bit of the
magic of the PC version.
Of course, I don't expect miracles, but if they're going to flash a picture
of somebody up on the screen when they speak, it could be animated rather
than a plain JPG. Or don't distract me from the game.
I mean, really - even Ys did the animated mouth thing 15 years ago on a
platform with 7MHz... So we EXPECT it.
Also, the voice acting was exactly as bad as I expected - one or two voices
were fine, but the girl's voice was so atrocious that it ruined all the
goodwill they built up with the decent ones.
I actually liked Raba's voice, but the actor hammed it up just a lttle too
much.
Then again, this *IS* an english version of an Ys game which we haven't seen
for about 10 years.
And the language translation of the script was very good.
I agree that Falcom should certainly be persuaded to bring out english
versions of their games here, whether they are PC or PS2 or whatever.
Another funny thing though:
There are 3 different PS2 version of Ys games (in Japan), and guess how many
different companies did them ?
Three. Digicube/Falcom for Ys Eternal 1-2, Taito for Ys 3, and Konami for
Ys 6.
So frankly, the financial success of one of these will probably have
absolutely no effect on bringing the others over unless it is a blockbuster
and newsworthy.
I don't know which of these ports (if any) are faithful to the original, but
having seen Taito's (Japanese)
PS2 version of Falcom's "Zwei!!", I would trust Taito a bit more. But Ys 3
was the worst Ys - I would like to see a remake in an overhead style, like
"the Oath in Felghana" may be.
