Hey. This isn't quite turbo-related, but I'm sure many of you are big fans
of the Ys series. Ys: The Oath in Felghana is out and I just got it a few
days ago. I have to say that my expectations have been exceeded.
Yes, it is a re-telling of the Ys 3 story using the Ys VI engine, but I
really like what they've done with it. The graphics engine seems to have
been streamlined a lot and runs much smoother now. (You could tell it still
needed some work in the PC version of Ys 6.) The fighting is faster now,
making the game much more intense. I have taken quite a liking to the
"boost" button, which allows Adol to kick even more arse for a few seconds
and can only be used once his 'rage meter' is full. The ability to attack
successively in mid-air is cool too. But it really picks up when Adol gains
the ability to dash. The whole game doubles in speed from there on. And
finally, the double jump is another move we always wished Adol had had
in Ys VI.
Also, the new arrangement of the Ys 3 soundtrack is quite good. Recently, I
haven't been very fond of Falcom's arrangers, but in my opinion, this one
just might be even better than the soundtrack in our own Turbo CD version
of Ys 3.
I'm progressing through the game rather quickly, so unfortunately the game
may be a bit short, as was Ys VI and the original Ys III, but it should be
good for at least a second play through. This game is like a present to
those of us who enjoyed Ys VI, and it's actually even better. If you liked
Ys VI, then you're going to enjoy The Oath in Felghana a lot.
