I thought I'd let the list know how close I am to being done with the
TurboRAM project.
For those that don't know, it is a similar project to the Greenhouse.
I estimate I will complete the final design by Fall 2000.
I currently have two prototypes built that are both working!
Yes it really does work and you don't just have to take my word on it.
Both Bt Garner and David Shadoff can validate my claims that this thing works.
I wanted to make sure I gave no one any false hope by fully designing and
building it first. I can't keep it bottled up no longer!
Currently it is a 8 Megabit device that programs through a serial port at
115K baud using a programmer of my design.
It has IEEE-1284 EPP support in hardware as well, but I have yet to finish
the software required to run that yet.
The prototype is currently undergoing a final design change to correct some
problems and to increase the total capacity.
I expect the final prototype to be able to support a maximum of 64 Megabits.
A unique feature of this card is it can be programmed while BOTH the
programmer AND the Turbografx are connected and powered up. The system
automatically boots the TurboGrafx after downloading the program. This is a
big plus and timesaver for developing programs. Also I plan to implement
hardware support for a debugger.
I guess now is a good time to ask if people are still interested in this
thing. I got good response from the first prototype announcement from last
time, I expect people are still interested even though its been awhile.
Don't ask how much it costs yet, I have not really added up the costs yet.
