The first 2 seconds of a CD or CDROM are *always* zeroes. But then again,
they aren't guaranteed to be readable. These are mandatory pregap, and
they would also be known as "track 1, index 0".
For the first track ("track 1, index 1"), most games start with an audio
warning track - CDDA, but this could also be mostly zeroes. Keep in mind
that 8 sectors represents about 0.11 seconds (75 sectors/frames per second).
Normally, there will be 2 seconds of postgap *and* 2 seconds of pregap
where the sector format changes from CDDA to Mode-1/Form-1 2048-byte sectors.
This will usually be 2 seconds of useless audio (probably silence), and a
2-second pregap on the following track (again, pregap is index 0).
Note that the CD's table of contents will only point to the "index 1" of
any given track (including the first), so you should not see zero-sectors
at the time signature of the first data track.
If you're using a "whole-disc" peeler program, then you're probably looking
at the first track - which is likely the audio warning track...
