[Pioneer LaserActive Station] Bad NEC pack? HELP!!

I am having trouble with my NEC pack on my LA.  Everything works fine 
except the RUN button on the controler.  HU chips boot, CD's boot, but 
since all the games require hitting "run" to start, i can't play any of 
them!  Everything worked fine a few weeks ago...could extended use of a 
tap and 5 controller cause this?  I know its not the controller, i 
tried my avenue 6 pad, a tubo pad, and a duo pad.  I plan on taking it 
apart to see if a pin came un-soldiered.  Anyone have any ideas?
