TG16 games on the card flashed in PCE mode will not run and they will
crash as you say.
This is because American TurboGrafx games contain region protection
code that detects the Japanese system and prevents the games from
starting, even if the flash cart itself has been flashed in Japanese
PCE mode.
This has nothing to do with the pin-out of the cartridge, it is a
lockout in the game software itself.
Japanese games/ROMs don't have this lockout code which is why you
aren't having any problems with them.
