On a system known for great shooters, this is one of the best. Great graphics and color are enhanced by a great CD soundtrack and great controls. If you love shooters this game is a must. A welcome addition to any TG16 library.
This game is one of the many reasons NEC's CD system kicks the living crap out of Sega's. GoT is a traditional horizontal shooter, but it's one of the best. I'd give it a perfect score, but there's really nothing about this game that makes it stand out from the other robo-shmups of the era (especially the Thunderforce games on Genesis). Still, it's an awesome game that's worth getting the Duo or TGCD system for. Highly reccomended!
This game rocked. I never beat it though. Of course I am not very good at videogames. But, I played this game endlessly. Incredible graphics, great soundtrack, awsome bosses. I love it.
This game is really good with great graphics and gameplay, but tough to beat! Once I beat it, I felt like I didn\'t want to play it again for a while because it was so frustrating to beat. The first few levels are really fun to play, its just the later stages that things start to get crazy! So overall this is a great game for die hard shooter fans, but I would recommend Lords of Thunder more.
I'm a bit of a late-comer to the Gate of Thunder. I bought this recently being inspired by Johnny Turbo's quote "and it's got the arcade feel!".
I'd have to say that Johnny is right - the graphics are top notch. Technically excellent use of scrolling and superb use of the sprite graphics system. There's hardly a flicker anywhere to be seen. Everything just works and looks seamless.
The music and sound is also awesome and adds considerable atmosphere. Again top marks there.
The one thing that I found let it down was a game mechanic - the actual position of the power-up satellites that you collect. I found myself constantly being killed because I was dodging them out of the way of an incoming bullet rather than my main ship. A minor quibble but I find that this is a little distracting as it's an important part of the game. It is something that you get used to but with a really good game you shouldn't need to get "used" to anything. It's the only reason it doesn't get full marks from me.
The best soundtrack on any shooter on the system. A lovely shooter in every way. Everyone should own this gem. Not as difficult as everyone is making out...Well, not compared to R-Type and Nexzr anyway.
