Rayxanber III is an interesting shooter in the style of R-Type that features some cool graphics and decent music with really, REALLY bad synthesized guitar. It manages to bring just enough originality to the table to avoid being dismissed as a total R-Type ripoff, although for some reason the whole game reminds me of R-Type's level 5. It's no R-Type, but it does have a certain "something" that makes it fun and not too frustrating.
Gorgeous game, gorgeous graphics, it is also quite innovative as it has a button for getting you out of sticky situations - like a quick boost.
Unfortunately I found the vulcan noise really irritating after a while and turned the volume down.
Later Stages feature some of the best use of the PC-Engine color palette I've ever seen, showing fine details similar to Super Famicom's top titles.
Gameplay is excellent too, no cut-scenes though.
Some parallax would have helped too...
Above average shooter, but don't pay over the odds...It's not all that...
One of the best PC ENGINE shooters out there, featuring some of the best graphics and gameplay.
