At the time when NEC needed as much support for the Turbo Grafx as possible, they decided to try to get a multi sport franchise out on the market, hoping to attract sports fans to the Turbo Grafx. NEC dubbed the sports franchise ''TV Sports'', the TV Sports franchise covered only 3 games and 3 sports, basketball, football, and possibly the best of the trio hockey.
TV Sports Hockey has slightly above average graphics, the players are decently animated, the crowd appears to be frozen in time, but no matter what two teams you pick its always Red Vs. Blue (even Ice Hockey for the NES had more jersey colors come on!). The close up scenes are nicely drawn and give the game a momentarily arcade feel, these close ups occur on face offs, one-on-one shots player vs. goalie, and in fights. The best TV Sports offering yet. It doesn't make it a great Hockey game, just decent. This game is just playable, its graphics just passable, the use of the Tap makes it fun to play. I could have swore their was TV Sports Baseball in the works...I have an Article in an old EGM somewhere, if I looked it up I know I could find it. Anyway decent hockey for the Turbo, but pales to other titles at the time.
Best of the TV Sports but that isn't saying much.
