One of the best RPG ever produced on any system! Y's Book I and II was a true gem of gaming mastery! This game has an excellent storyline, music, sound, control, use of colors and graphics for the day. The cinemas are absolutely amazing, especially when taken into accout the year theat the game was released. This game will give hours upon hours of enjoyment, but you'll never want it to end. Replay value is very high, especially for an RPG. This is a must have for all owners of a TG16, and a must play for ALL gamers.
one of my favorite RPG series.... Y's book 1 is a nice game, but is too short.... Y's book 2 is the tru masterpiece....... also the music in this game is so spectacular, I do beleave an orchestra has redone it and released it, for the PC remake or something along those lines...... just awesome....
Ys Book I&II (Also known as Ancient Ys Vanished I&II in japan) is SURELY a master piece. Both Graphics and Music are incredible.
Sorry about the backslashes, but the site doesn\'t seem to like contractions when I edit a review. Anyway, I first played this last year, and due to the hype I heard about this game in years, I went in expecting a be-all-end-all RPG masterpiece. I came out thinking it was average at best. It\\\'s not a poor game by any means, but I certainly don\\\'t think it\\\'s \\\"stunning\\\", \\\"a true masterpice\\\", or \\\"OMFG YS IS TEH BEST RPG EVAR!!111\\\" I think nostalgia plays a large role in the rave reviews on this game, and since I didn\\\'t have any (nostalgia about Ys, that is), I didn\\\'t enjoy it as much. I\\\'d still recommend it, though. The presentation is top-notch and the soundtrack is indeed excellent.
This game is a true masterpiece! An absolute classic! My favorite game of all time!
This is a must have game! The game has everything; decent graphics, very deep, overwhelming story, simple combat system, easy to use menus, advance character interaction, amazing voice acting, marvelous villians, and an outstanding soundtrack and more! Get this game NOW!
I've been gaming for almost 30 years, and have played literally thousands of games, and "Y's: Book I & II" is quite possibly my favorite RPG of all time.
The in game graphics aren't anything a modern gamer with no roots to the 8/16-bit era would rave over, but than it's a TG-16 CD title. As such, judging it by modern gaming standards is as unfair as it is redundant to mention; but this is my first scoring/review on this site, so I thought I'd mention it anyway. While the in-game visuals are average at best IMO, the cut scenes are beautifully animated and appropriately voiced "Anime" styled cinema, that still looks outstanding even by modern standards. The realtime combat engine is simplistic perfection, and arguable the most effective fighting system used in a single character, quest style RPG. Even the most unseasoned of RPG gamers can pick the controller up and dive in with minimal knowledge of the game, or how it's combat system works. To attack, you simply attempt controlled contacts with e
I think that this game is great. Incredible really. I think when you get people who review it today and they say its average....thats because this game invented the genre. Its like now after Final Fantasy VII, games seem average because it raised the bar. Same goes for Ys Book I and II, it raised the bar.
This is the main reason I own a TurboDuo. I know I can come back to this game when I am tired of all the new crap.
So engrossing. I love this.
Now, why don't I give this game a 5, when it is the one that sold me on the Turbografx/PC Engine so long ago? Simple. No diagonal movement. ;P
This game has restarted my love for video games. I got married and got 2 kids and simply stopped playing for several years, then i found this game and i just play play play. The translation is top notch the sound/music is amazing. The gfx is so so but it does the job.
