Not as good as the first two Y's games, but good none the less... this and other sequals ventured from the top down view(nuetopia/zelda)and into a more side scrolling platform type movement... its an action/RPG so there's plenty of slashing involved....
Let me get one thing straight here... this is a baaaaaaad version of the game (the SFC/SNES version is better). The sprites are tiny and lacking details, virtually all of the scrolling is the nastiest, jerkiest 2D I've ever seen, and the story is full of uninteresting cliches. However, the reason I gave this game a 4.0 is because of the soundtrack - it's incredible. Amazing. Among the best I've ever heard in any game. Period. Ys Book I-II's music SUCKS compared to this. Highly reccomended for the soundtrack alone.
Ys III: Wanderers from Ys is a down in the tremindous "Ys" series. But still, it's not a bad game. It doesn't follow the other Ys games at all, but it's decent as it's own game, they should of just called it something else.
What's most different about this Ys game is that it's not in an over-head view; it's a platform RPG. The paralex backgrounds are really jerky and just look ugly. The graphics are okay, some nice cinematics (even though there is only two) and the background's graphics are okay. The soundtrack, however, is still just as good as it was! Falcom impressed us again with a wonderful soundtrack, although this game lacks variety in music than the other ones since it's mainly heavy electric guitar stuff. Neverless, still great music.
Try this game out, it's worth it. I prefer you play the other Ys games instead.
A let down, but worth completing nonetheless...
Wow. Yall were hard on this one.. I actually loved it. I thought the gameplay was tight, and the storyline drew me in. Reminded me a little of Faxandu on the NES. I still play this from time to time.
