Blue Breaker is not amazing, but there are some redeeming qualities.
The anime cut scenes in the game seem dated and a little sloppy, but they add a little early 90's anime nostalgia and they are on par with anime TV shows from that period. The in-game full screen character animation (used durring dialog) is VERY nice. Music is boinky and average PCM.
Something about the game is adicting. It goes back to the basics of leveling up etc. The dating aspects of the game could be compared to the Playstation title Thousand Arms.
You will need to to have at least an average knowledge of Japanese to get anywhere in this game.
The worst aspect of the game that no one warned me about is the repetitive nature of travel and battle. Your characters will traverse the same 2D side-scrolling backgrounds over and over and over until you think you will never see any new graphics. New backgrounds do come, but it is a very long time between them.
I still play this title fairly often, it is entertaining in
